Naranjas - Oranges - Hortiberia

Oranges

With ten months of availability, oranges are the citrus line that gives continuity to Hortiberia's programme from early autumn to the start of summer. The group's growers produce them in south-eastern Spain and market them through Hortiberia to organised retail, wholesale markets and the food service channel across Europe.

Supply calendar

Oranges are available from September to June: September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June. July and August are outside the calendar. This span lets a buyer cover almost the whole northern hemisphere citrus season from one origin and move from early to late fruit without changing supplier.

Sizes

Oranges are graded in sizes 3X, 2X, 1X, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, covering large fruit for loose sale and catering as well as the smaller counts packed in nets.

Packing and palletisation

Oranges are packed in the same formats as the rest of the group's citrus range, which makes it straightforward to combine lines in a single load:

  • Cardboard box and wooden box.
  • Girsac 20×1: 36 boxes per Euro pallet, 45 per 100×120 pallet.
  • Girsac 10×1: 36 per Euro pallet, 45 per pallet.
  • Pitufos 2.3 kg: 288 per Euro pallet, 360 per pallet.
  • 10 kg box: 68 per Euro pallet, 85 per pallet.
  • 15 kg box: 48 per Euro pallet, 60 per pallet.

Girsac nets and Pitufos are aimed at the supermarket shelf; the 10 kg and 15 kg boxes at wholesalers and catering.

Transport, traceability and regulation

The recommended transport temperature is 4-7 °C. On long road journeys, holding this range limits weight loss and keeps the peel firm up to the destination platform.

The group's growers farm under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS and under the equivalent standards required by European retailers. Each lot is traceable to the plot of origin, with post-harvest treatments within EU regulations and labelling in line with the receiving market.

Orange programmes are planned for the full season, with formats and volumes adjustable week by week.
