Apio Verde - Celery - Hortiberia

Celery

Grown in the Campo de Cartagena and neighbouring areas of south-east Spain, green celery is one of the stem vegetables that Hortiberia exports to wholesale and retail buyers across Europe. The group's growers harvest it for most of the year, producing compact, well-formed heads suited both to the bulk trade and to pre-packed retail.

Full product sheet

Availability

Celery is supplied from January to June and again from September to December. July and August fall outside the season, so annual programmes with importers and retail chains are usually built in two blocks, with weekly volumes agreed before the autumn restart.

Weight, counts and packing

Heads weigh between 400 and 900 g and are packed in counts of 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 per box, which gives buyers room to match the specification to a wholesale market or to a self-service shelf. Standard presentation:

  • Cardboard box.
  • Celery packed in bags to protect the leaf during transit and storage.
  • Palletisation: 36 boxes per Euro pallet, 45 per 100×120 pallet.

Cold chain, traceability and compliance

Celery loses crispness quickly if it warms up, so the recommended transport temperature is 1-4 °C, with the cold chain kept unbroken from the packhouse to the customer's platform. Every lot can be traced back to the plot where it was grown and is shipped in line with EU rules on maximum residue levels, plant protection products and labelling. The group's growers operate under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, alongside the equivalent standards required by European retailers.

Buyers who need steady celery volumes across both parts of the season can agree counts, packing format and weekly quantities with Hortiberia's commercial team ahead of each campaign, leaving enough margin to secure continuity of supply.
