Between May and August, cherries hold a place of their own in Hortiberia's fruit offer. This is a short, fast-moving campaign that demands speed at harvest, in the packhouse and at dispatch, and it is where the experience of the group's producers shows most clearly in how the fruit arrives at destination.

Our cherry window covers May, June, July and August. The May start allows the fruit to reach European shelves as demand for stone fruit begins to build, and the August tail gives room to close programmes with retailers before the switch to autumn fruit. Within that period Hortiberia coordinates supply with its member producers to keep deliveries regular, always subject to how each campaign develops.
Cherries are supplied in cardboard boxes, with two basket presentations:
Should a buyer require a different box or pallet configuration, this can be raised at the programming stage so that the packing line is adjusted before shipments begin.
The recommended transport temperature for cherries is 1-2 °C. The fruit loses firmness quickly if it warms, so cooling after harvest and a continuous cold chain through to destination have a direct bearing on shelf life at the point of sale. The group's producers work under standards such as GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, with lot and plot traceability that identifies the origin of every consignment. Fruit is dispatched in compliance with EU regulations on maximum residue levels, labelling and plant protection products.
For a buyer looking to secure Spanish cherries through the summer, our advice is to close the programme early, given how tight the calendar is.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
