Avocados have become one of the fastest-growing lines in European retail, and production in south-eastern Spain can supply the continental market with far shorter transit times than overseas fruit. Hortiberia markets them within its fruit range, in a pack designed for direct shelf display and for wholesale distribution.

Avocados are available twelve months of the year. This continuity allows supply to be programmed without interruption and the product to be combined with the group's other fruit and vegetable lines in the same weekly load.
Sizes 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 (fruit per 4 kg box) are available, spanning the large fruit sought by the professional channel through to the small and medium counts common in unit sale and nets.
A single-layer box avoids pressure between fruit and reduces bruising in a product that marks easily, helping to maintain presentation at the point of sale. The 4 kg net weight also suits retailers who display the fruit directly in its box and wholesalers who split consignments into small daily orders for catering customers.
The recommended transport temperature is 6-8 °C. Avocados suffer chilling injury below that range and ripen faster if the temperature rises, so thermal stability in transit directly determines shelf life at destination.
The group's growers operate under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS and under the equivalent standards required by European retailers. Each consignment is identified by lot and plot, with treatment controls in line with EU regulations and labelling adjusted to the receiving market.
Hortiberia treats avocados as an annual programme line, with regular review of sizes according to fruit development and each customer's demand.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
