Custard Apples

Custard apples are one of the less common lines in export catalogues from south-eastern Spain, which is precisely why they fit within Hortiberia's offer. Our commitment to diversity of production leads us to market references that allow an importer or buying office to round out its autumn and winter fruit range with something distinctive.

Availability in the cold months

Hortiberia's custard apple campaign is concentrated in October, November, December and January. This four-month calendar matches European demand for winter fruit and the peak consumption weeks around the end of the year. Buyers can plan supply for that period in the knowledge that no product will be available outside it.

Sizes and box formats

We supply custard apples in sizes 6, 8, 10 and 12, always in a single-layer cardboard tray, with three weight and palletisation configurations:

  • 6-piece tray, 4 kg: 144 boxes per Euro pallet and 180 per 100×120 pallet.
  • 8-piece tray, 3.8 kg: 144 boxes per Euro pallet and 180 per 100×120 pallet.
  • 3 kg tray: 176 boxes per Euro pallet and 220 per 100×120 pallet.

The single layer protects the fruit from knocks and pressure, which matters for a thin-skinned reference that must reach the shelf unmarked.

Temperature, traceability and regulations

Custard apples travel at 6-8 °C. Unlike much of the catalogue, they do not tolerate lower temperatures without risk of chilling injury, so the refrigeration setting must be held throughout the journey. The group's producers operate under standards such as GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS and maintain traceability by lot and plot. All fruit is dispatched in line with EU rules on maximum residue levels, labelling and plant protection products.

To programme custard apples for the final quarter, it is worth defining sizes and format in advance, as this is a specialised reference with its own handling requirements.

The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
