Eight months of availability

Pears are supplied from August to March: the season opens in August, runs through autumn and winter and closes in March. Only April to July falls outside the campaign, which makes annual agreements with a single planned interruption practical.

Sizes and packaging

Working sizes are 50/60, 60/70 and 70+, in millimetres. Packs are built on cardboard boxes:

  • 1 kg baskets for retail.
  • 10 kg loose: 48 boxes per Euro pallet, 64 per 100×120 pallet.
  • Single tray, 7 kg: 88 boxes per Euro pallet, 110 per 100×120 pallet.
  • Double tray, 10 kg: 52 boxes per Euro pallet, 65 per 100×120 pallet.
  • 18 kg bushel for wholesale and food service.

Baskets and trays are aimed at the retail shelf; loose and bushel formats answer wholesale market and catering demand, and the two groups can share a pallet when the destination requires it.

Transport, cold chain and guarantees

The recommended transport temperature is 1-3 °C. The group's growers work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, together with the equivalent standards demanded by European retailers, with lot and farm traceability and compliance with EU rules on maximum residue levels, plant protection products and labelling. Documentation for each consignment travels with the pallet and identifies origin, lot and packing date.

For pear programmes from August to March, Hortiberia agrees with each customer the mix of sizes and formats for each stage of the season, so that supply keeps the same presentation throughout.

The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
