Blackberry

Hortiberia includes blackberries in its fruit catalogue as a berry line for customers who need a supplier with a long calendar and uniform packaging. The group, headquartered in Cartagena and made up of four member companies, markets its growers' production in more than 40 countries, and blackberries are handled with the same approach as the rest of the range: weekly scheduling, temperature control and complete documentation for every shipment.

Full product sheet

Ten months of supply

Blackberries are available from January to June and from September to December. July and August fall outside the season, so annual programmes should allow for that gap and re-plan supply for the September restart.

Packaging and palletisation

The standard pack is a 125 g lidded punnet in a cardboard box of 12 units, giving 1.5 kg net per box. Palletisation is 240 boxes per Euro pallet. The format is designed for the retail shelf and for platforms that deliver to store without repacking. No size scale is listed for this product, so orders are placed by number of boxes and pallets rather than by grade. In practice this simplifies scheduling: a Euro pallet of 240 boxes corresponds to 2,880 punnets, a useful reference when planning store allocations and delivery frequency.

Cold chain, transport and guarantees

As a highly perishable fruit, blackberries travel at 2-3 °C, and the cold chain must remain unbroken between the packhouse and the destination platform. The group's growers work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS and the equivalent standards required by European retailers, with lot and farm traceability. Each punnet is labelled in line with EU rules, and each pallet carries documentation stating origin, packing date and lot.

For customers running berries on programme, Hortiberia proposes blackberries within an annual agreement setting weekly volumes, with review points at the January-June and September-December season changes.

The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
