Parsnips from Hortiberia come in one straightforward specification, 5 kg loose, graded into four sizes and shipped through the winter and spring from the group's growers in south-east Spain. For importers and retail platforms in northern Europe, where parsnips are a staple of the cold months, the Spanish crop provides a nearby origin while domestic supply is tight or finished.

Supply runs from November to May. From June to October there is no availability, so the Spanish window fits the winter and spring stretch of annual programmes that draw on several origins.
Roots are graded MM, M, G and GG, from the small, uniform parsnip used in trays and pre-packs through to the large roots preferred by wholesale buyers and fresh-cut processors.
Loose 5 kg packing is the standard for distribution centres and wholesalers, who repack at destination to the presentation each end customer requires, whether that is a tray, a bag or loose display.
The recommended transport temperature is 7-8 °C, which is the range the group's growers specify to keep the roots firm and limit moisture loss on the journey. Keeping the same range in the receiving warehouse helps extend shelf life once the product arrives.
Every consignment is identified by lot and plot of origin, with records available to customers and control authorities. The group's growers work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, as well as the equivalent standards European retailers require, and comply with EU rules on maximum residue levels, plant protection products and labelling.
Importers wanting to add Spanish parsnips to their winter programme can agree weekly volumes and the size split with Hortiberia's commercial team before the season opens in November.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
