A short season and a very defined commercial window make apricots a fruit that demands responsiveness from the supplier and faultless cold chain logistics. Hortiberia exports them from the Region of Murcia and south-eastern Spain, an early production area in Europe, to organised retail and wholesale markets across the continent.

Apricots are available from May to August: May, June, July and August. Over these four months volume varies week by week as harvesting progresses, so programmes are closed before the season starts and adjusted with weekly notices of availability and size.
Sizes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are worked, a wide range that allows the largest fruit to go to trays and unit sale and the medium and small counts to loose packs and baskets.
The single layer reduces rubbing between fruit that marks easily; the 1 kg basket is aimed at the shelf and the 5 kg loose pack at wholesalers and catering.
The recommended transport temperature is 1-2 °C, the lowest in the group's fruit range. Holding it from packing to delivery slows ripening and loss of firmness, both of which advance very quickly in apricots at ambient temperature.
The group's growers work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS and the equivalent standards required by European retailers, with lot and plot traceability, treatments within EU regulations and labelling adapted to the destination country.
For apricots, Hortiberia recommends closing the season's programme in advance and keeping weekly contact throughout the four months of harvest.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
