Availability

Supply runs from January to December without a seasonal gap. For a retail buying office this allows the line to be written into an annual programme with one supplier, avoiding the switch between winter and summer origins.

Sizes and packaging

Carrots are graded into MM, M, G and GG, so that product for consumer bags can be kept separate from loose or food service grades. Every format ships in cardboard boxes, with three configurations:

  • Bags of 10 x 1 kg, 100 boxes per pallet.
  • Sack of 2 x 5 kg, 100 boxes per pallet.
  • Loose 10 kg, 100 boxes per pallet.

With 100 boxes per pallet in each case, full-load calculations are straightforward and carrots can be combined with other Hortiberia lines on the same vehicle.

Organic and conventional

The organic line carries EU organic certification and is labelled separately. Both lines share sizes, formats and transport conditions, so a buyer running two ranges deals with one supplier and one set of lot documentation.

Cold chain, traceability and compliance

Recommended transport temperature is 1-4 °C, with the cold chain maintained from packing to the destination platform. Each lot is identified by farm of origin, so traceability can be followed back in the event of a customer audit. The group's growers work under standards such as GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, and the product meets EU requirements on maximum residue levels, plant protection products and labelling, which also apply in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.

Annual programmes or specific campaigns for carrots are worked out with the buyer by Hortiberia's commercial team, matching size and format to the channel.

The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
