Escarole is a broad-leaved, slightly bitter chicory that Central European and Mediterranean markets treat as a lettuce, and Hortiberia packs it accordingly, with the same 60 x 40 box and pallet configurations as its other leaf lines. The group's grower members produce it in EU-certified organic and in conventional, and supply runs from January to December.

Escarole is supplied in size 12, twelve heads per box, in a 60 x 40 cardboard box with each head in a bag. Two pallet configurations are available depending on box height:
Because the 60 x 40 footprint is shared with oakleaf and lollo, mixed pallets can be built when weekly demand for a single line does not fill a pallet.
Twelve months of the year. The climate of south-east Spain lets the group's growers shift cultivation between zones as the season moves, so the line stays on the weekly programme during the months when northern European field production is unavailable.
The organic line carries EU certification and separate labelling. Box, pallet and transport conditions are the same for both, so a buyer can set the proportion of organic to conventional week by week without changing logistics.
Transport temperature is 1-4 °C. Growers work under standards such as GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS, with lot and farm traceability on every consignment, and the product meets EU requirements on residues, plant protection products and labelling.
Grupo Hortiberia was created in Cartagena in 2001 by four grower-exporter companies and now sells into more than 40 countries. Its commercial team works with each buyer on size, pallet configuration and the organic-to-conventional split for escarole.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
