A dark-skinned tomato, somewhere between brown and green, that sells precisely because it does not look like the conventional red tomato. Kumato occupies the differentiated tomato space on European shelves, with shoppers who ask for it by name and retailers who list it as a stable reference rather than a seasonal novelty. Hortiberia markets it from the group's growers in south-eastern Spain, in conventional and certified organic production.

October to May: October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May. This matches the group's general tomato calendar, so it can travel in the same trucks as beef, plum or cherry and be received at the platform under one delivery note.
Grading is MM, M, G and GG. There are two packs, both in cardboard boxes:
For a product whose value lies in its appearance, the tray is the safer option on long journeys: it avoids rubbing between pieces and presents the fruit already arranged for shelf display.
Transport temperature is 7-8 °C. Kumato is harvested and sold at a colour stage short of full red, so temperature control in transit is what preserves that characteristic appearance through to the point of sale. The group's growers work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS or the equivalent standards retail chains require, with traceability by lot and plot and compliance with EU residue and labelling rules. Organic production carries EU certification.
As a higher-value reference, Hortiberia recommends scheduling it with fixed weekly volumes by size and format to ensure continuity on the shelf.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
