Romanesco is the most visually distinctive head in the brassica range that Hortiberia markets: a pale green curd with the spiralling florets that make it instantly recognisable on the shelf and that call for careful handling in the field and the packhouse if it is to arrive unmarked. The group's growers have spent decades supplying cabbages, cauliflowers and broccoli to European retailers, and romanesco is harvested and prepared with the same working discipline.

Supply runs through the cooler months: November, December, January, February, March, April and May. It is a winter and spring product that fits the brassica programmes of northern and central European retailers once local production has finished.
Head weight is between 800 and 1,100 g. Sizes are expressed as heads per box, with 6, 8, 10 and 12 pieces, which allows the buyer to match head size to each customer's requirements. Formats available:
Romanesco travels at 1-4 °C. The group's growers prepare much of the product in the field and cool it quickly after harvest, so field heat is removed before loading and the cold chain is not broken through to the customer's platform. They work under GLOBALG.A.P. and IFS or the equivalent standards demanded by retail, with traceability by lot and plot and compliance with EU rules on residues and labelling. Within the brassica range the group also has certified organic production; availability for this line can be confirmed on request.
For seasonal programmes, Hortiberia works from weekly forecasts by size and format agreed at the start of the campaign.
The Hortiberia Group brings together the drive and experience of four market leaders from the sector in order to consolidate a project with a great future.
